The Melvins

What? On July 8, the Melvins will release their 23rd album in 24 years, Nude With Boots, on Ipecac Recordings. The sludge-rock mainstays are known for consistently crafting the gnarliest of slow-tempo metal offerings, a tradition triumphantly upheld throughout Nuder.

Albert Hammond Jr.

What? With the Strokes on an unofficial hiatus, ragamuffin rhythm guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has turned efforts inward, developing into quite the self-determined songwriter. And less than a year after the U.S.

Alkaline Trio

What? Over the last decade, Chicago's death-obsessed emo outfit Alkaline Trio have progressed from a youthful, angst-powered outfit churning gruff-throated shouters to a slightly -- dare we say!

Jean Grae

What? After toiling in obscurity for nearly a decade, indie hip-hop B-girl Jean Grae is ready for her close-up with Jeanius, her long-delayed fourth full-length and fifth release overall, set to drop next week via Talib Kweli's Blacksmith Records.

TV on the Radio Make Waves at Montreal Jazz Fest

Last night, at the 10-day Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Brooklyn's avant-indie rock outfit TV on the Radio introduced an audience of smarty-pants fans and curious festival-goers to their white hot energy and brilliant noise. Oxford Collapse, Takka Takka Take Over Nation's Capital

A steamy night in the nation's capital was the scene for a sold-out show at Black Cat's backstage last night, June 30. Glasgow's Frightened Rabbit were headliners, but the opening bands demonstrated how exciting music can be on this side of the Atlantic. Takka Takka and Oxford Collapse more than took over the stage, albeit in very different ways.
