Skateboarders and artists gathered at the Volcom store for a silent auction in honor of a skateboarding legend.

Last Saturday (December 12th), the Volcom store in Soho, NYC, hosted a benefit in honor of the late Andy Kessler, who passed away in August. A pioneer of skateboarding, Kessler brought the East Coast skate scene to life by designing the Riverside Skate Park, New York City's first municipal park facility. Through the Andy Kessler Foundation, his dream of granting inner-city youth access to skateboarding will continue as the foundation aims to provide the under-privileged with both surf and skate equipment. 

The event featured various artists who have roots in the skateboarding scene including New York artist Dennis McNett, pro skateboarder Geoff Rowley, and photographs from Grant Brittain, a prolific skateboard photographer from the '80s. Skateboarders, artists, and fans alike browsed the pieces in the auction, sipping drinks and remembering the impact that Andy Kessler had on their lives, as well as the sport of skateboarding.

Even if Kessler is gone, his legacy will live on.
